 Canterbury location

The Canterbury Plains in New Zealand's South Island stretch between the Southern Alps to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east and are well-known for their favourable climate for agriculture.

Pure Nature Pasture takes advantage of this unique and dynamic ecosystem to finish their Angus cattle in a free-range setting.

Pure Nature Pasture Farm

Angus Cattle

The NZ Angus cattle breed, originate from the Scottish Aberdeen Angus cattle which is known for their black coat, medium build size and distinctive marbling characteristics of the meat.

The commercial NZ Angus cattle are expertly selected and finished on Pure Nature Pasture’s own farm where they roam freely outside all year on pasture.

PNP Angus steer

Grain Fed

The Angus cows are finished on a diet which includes a specialty formulated mix of grain and other high-energy feed components.

This grain feeding programme promotes the development of fat within the animal. This is demonstrated as meat marbling, a characteristic of Angus beef.

NZFAP

Pure Nature Pasture’s Angus Beef farm is independently audited against The New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme (NZFAP), a comprehensive quality assurance program developed by the New Zealand agricultural industry.

It sets standards and guidelines for on-farm practices, covering various aspects of farming, including animal welfare, food safety, biosecurity, and environmental sustainability.

Key components of the NZFAP include:

  • Animal Welfare: The program sets standards for the humane treatment and care of animals, covering areas such as stockmanship, housing, transportation, and health management.
  • Food Safety: NZFAP incorporates rigorous food safety protocols, including traceability systems, hygiene practices, and quality control measures to ensure that New Zealand agricultural products meet strict safety standards.

IMF scanning

To ensure consistent and high-quality marbling in the meat, each animal is independently scanned using Intramuscular Fat scanning technology (IMF).

This imaging technique involves scanning animals to evaluate the distribution and quantity of intramuscular fat within meat cuts, supporting the grading and selection of animals.

Through IMF technology, the process of achieving uniform meat quality and optimal marbling is significantly enhanced.

NAIT

Each animal on the Pure Nature Pasture farm is uniquely identified via the NAIT system (National Animal Identification and Tracing)

The system is used to trace cattle from farm to processing, enabling the identification of individual animals, and providing transparency and accountability throughout the supply chain. This system helps ensure the integrity and origin of New Zealand beef products.
